Park Royal Makes $250,000 Donation Towards New Community Sports Facility
WEST VANCOUVER (December 18, 2019) – West Vancouver Place for Sport (WVPFS) is delighted to announce a $250,000 donation from Park Royal towards the building of a much needed, versatile track and field community sports facility in West Vancouver. Plus, thanks to the timing of the donation, Park Royal’s generosity will be matched by the District of West Vancouver as part of the municipality’s own donation commitment for a total impact of $500,000 towards the project’s goal.
“We are incredibly grateful to Park Royal for this pivotal gift to the project, but most importantly to the people of West Vancouver,” said Gerry Humphries on behalf of the West Vancouver Place For Sport Committee. “Thanks to Park Royal, this donation will bring us even closer to achieving our goal and beginning construction on the new West Vancouver Place For Sport.”
Highlights of the new facility will include a renewed five-lane rubberized running track andan ecologically responsible and sustainable all-weather, all-season turf field. The facility will also feature low-energy lighting as well as washroom facilities, providing a safe, accessible and welcoming environment for young athletes, seniors, families and all community members
It will replace an aging facility that no longer meets the needs of the many school, community, and local sports groups that use it.
“For 70 years, Park Royal has been a proud member of the West Vancouver community and a neighbourhood urban centre,” said Karen Donald, General Manager of Park Royal. “We are so pleased to go above and beyond our regular charitable campaigns to be able to give back to our community by contributing to a project that will make such a positive difference for generations to come.”
Park Royal’s $250,000 donation along with the District of West Vancouver’s matching funds, as well as previously announced contributions from the West Vancouver School District, West Vancouver Foundation, and West Vancouver FC bring the project’s fundraising total to $3.3 Million towards the total goal of raising $4.9 Million.
